17 Nigerian cricket coaches earn ICC level 2 certification

A total of 17 Nigerian cricket coaches have successfully completed the prestigious ICC Level 2 Coaching Course, marking a significant milestone in the development of cricket coaching in Nigeria.

The certification programme was delivered across two sessions. The first course took place in Abuja from June 12-15, 2025, where 13 coaches earned their credentials.

The coaches include: Ademola Adeniyi Onikoyi, Afani Abdulhamid Ali, Agatha Obulor, Salako Azeez Adekunle, Justin Prosper Okere, Oluseye Olympio Ali, Leonard Onome Oghenekevwe, Okechukwu Onwudiwe Jamal, Richard Ikiponmwen Osamudiamen, Offong Edidiong, Okafor Somtochukwu Odinaka, Matthew Aghahowa Efosa, and Awobola Yusuf Bolaji.

A second cohort of four coaches also achieved certification after completing the course held in Namibia from September 7-10, 2025. The successful candidates were Etim Blessing, Sarah Bhakita, Oyede Adeleke Mutiu, and Ibodeme Adolphus Theophilus.

Nigeria Cricket Federation President, Mr. Uyi Akpata, congratulated the newly certified coaches and commended them for their achievement.

Mr. Akpata urged the coaches to continue striving for excellence and to transfer their knowledge to grassroots coaches across the country. This initiative aligns with the Federation’s ambitious goal of introducing cricket to over 250,000 new participants nationwide.

The expansion of qualified coaching capacity represents a crucial step in Nigeria’s cricket development roadmap and underscores the Federation’s commitment to building a sustainable foundation for the sport’s growth.
