NBA superstar Kevin Durant has thrown his support behind D’Tigers forward Josh Okogie, backing him to thrive with the Houston Rockets after playing a key role in the team’s first win of the season – a dominant 137-109 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.
After dropping their first two games despite an impressive preseason, head coach Ime Udoka decided to shake things up by inserting Okogie into the starting lineup. The move paid off, as the Nigerian forward logged the most minutes on the floor (31) for the Rockets.
Although Okogie finished with a modest 10 points and one assist, his trademark energy and defensive intensity were evident. With Udoka’s Rockets known for their defensive grit and discipline, Durant believes the franchise is a perfect fit for the D’Tigers star.

“He (Josh Okogie) helped out a lot. I know him like the back of my hand – playing the last two seasons with him in Phoenix, I know his mindset when he’s on the court,” Durant said.
“He’s hard-nosed, picks you up full court, makes the right plays, and finishes at the rim. I feel this environment is perfect for him – being able to fly around and do a lot of things defensively,” he added.
Up next for the Rockets is a clash with the Toronto Raptors, who have also endured a slow start to the season, losing three of their first four games. The Rockets, who have dropped two of their opening three, will look to build on their momentum as they continue their push toward playoff contention.
