Zadok Yohanna made his competitive debut for Brighton on Thursday night as the Seagulls were held to a goalless draw by Tromsø in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off clash at Romssa Arena.
The 19-year-old Nigerian winger was introduced in the 87th minute, replacing Ferdi Kadioglu, to make his first competitive appearance for the Premier League club.
Brighton dominated large spells of the encounter and created several opportunities but were unable to break down a resilient Tromsø defence. The visitors registered 25 shots, including six on target, but the Norwegian side held firm to secure a valuable draw.
Yohanna’s brief cameo came as Brighton pushed for a late winner, but neither side could find the decisive goal before the final whistle.

The two teams will meet again in the return leg at the Amex Stadium on August 27, with the aggregate winner securing a place in the league phase of the 2026/27 UEFA Conference League.
Should Yohanna feature in the return fixture, the youngster will have the opportunity to make his home debut for Brighton in front of the club’s supporters.
Brighton qualified for European competition for the first time in their history in 2023, reaching the UEFA Europa League round of 16 before being eliminated. The club will now be looking to qualify for another European competition by defeating Tromsø in the Conference League play-offs.
For Yohanna, Thursday’s appearance represents another significant step in his rapidly developing career. After making his competitive bow, the teenager will now hope to earn more opportunities and establish himself as part of Brighton’s first-team setup.
