Nigerian teenager Zadok Yohanna says his ambition is to win trophies and continue his development after completing a club-record move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 18-year-old winger joined the Premier League side from Swedish club AIK Stockholm in a deal worth €28 million, with a further €2 million in performance-related add-ons.

Rather than focusing on the size of the transfer, Yohanna highlighted Brighton’s reputation for nurturing young talents as the key reason behind his decision to move to the south coast club.

“I watch Premier League games a lot, so I know the teams that use young players, and Brighton is one of them,” Yohanna said.

“They are really good at developing young talents, and I think their style of play will fit me a lot.”

The Nigerian youngster enjoyed a rapid rise in Sweden, where his performances for AIK Stockholm established him as one of the most promising young talents in Europe.

Despite his excitement about joining Brighton, Yohanna admitted that leaving AIK was an emotional decision after spending a crucial stage of his development at the Swedish club.

“I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me, so it was difficult to leave,” he said.

Yohanna also disclosed that he held discussions with Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler before finalising the move, with the German coach encouraging him to maintain the work ethic that brought him this far.

“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard,” Yohanna said.

“I will give everything I have and I really want to win trophies with the team.”
