Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has emerged as a late option for Feyenoord. The Dutch giants are searching for another striker after Ayase Ueda left for Lille.
Feyenoord lost Ueda after a strong run of form from the Japan international. He scored 25 Eredivisie goals last season and finished as the league’s top scorer. Ueda also started this season well, scoring three goals and providing one assist in four appearances before his move.
The Eredivisie club now needs another attacking option. Casper Tengstedt has also left the squad after joining Toulouse.
That leaves Feyenoord with Nacho Ferri and Shaqueel van Persie. The club has already considered other strikers during the transfer window.
Bojan Miovski and Lenny Joseph have both emerged as alternatives. However, Boniface could offer Feyenoord a more established attacking profile.
FootballTransfers has identified the Nigerian as a potential fit.
“The Nigerian striker seems capable of adding value to Feyenoord with his playing style,” the report states.
It goes even further in its assessment of the Super Eagles forward.
“He would immediately be the best player in the squad.”
Boniface returned to Bayer Leverkusen after spending last season on loan at Werder Bremen. His previous campaign suffered disruption from a knee injury.
The 25-year-old now faces uncertainty over his role at Leverkusen. FootballTransfers reports that he has become a reserve option.
Boniface has made just one appearance this season. He came off the bench in that match. He also remained an unused substitute in a cup game.
That situation could open the door to another move.
A loan deal could provide Boniface with regular football. Feyenoord could also explore a purchase option as part of such an agreement.
For the Dutch club, the timing makes the situation particularly interesting. The Eredivisie transfer window remains open until late on September 2.
Feyenoord therefore have little time to strengthen their attack.
Boniface could become one of the biggest names available before the deadline.
