Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen are in discussions over a potential loan move for Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen as the summer transfer window draws to a close, Bold Sports reports.
According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, negotiations are ongoing between all parties, but uncertainty remains over whether the deal will materialise, with only a few hours left before the window shuts.
Boniface had previously come close to joining AC Milan earlier in the window, but the proposed transfer collapsed after the Italian giants pulled out, citing concerns over the Nigerian’s fitness as the primary reason for withdrawing their interest.

The situation leaves Boniface’s future hanging in the balance, as it is yet to be seen if he will remain a Leverkusen player beyond the deadline. The club’s decision to dismiss head coach Erik ten Hag on Monday morning has opened the door for the striker to stake his claim under a new manager, but he may still be keen on seeking a fresh challenge elsewhere.
For Werder Bremen, securing Boniface’s signature could be a timely boost to strengthen their attacking options following a disappointing start to the season. The club crashed out of the DFB Pokal, lost their Bundesliga opener to Eintracht Frankfurt, and needed a late Karim Coulibaly equaliser to rescue a 3-3 draw against Leverkusen in their second league fixture.
Meanwhile, Boniface has resumed full training following the collapse of his AC Milan move but has yet to make an appearance for Leverkusen this season. The 24-year-old currently finds himself behind Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane in the striking pecking order, although the imminent arrival of a new head coach could alter his prospects.

Last season, Boniface registered 11 goals and one assist in 27 appearances for Leverkusen, following an impressive debut campaign in which he netted 21 goals and provided nine assists under former head coach Xabi Alonso, playing a pivotal role in the club’s Bundesliga title triumph.
