Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have sacked head coach Erik ten Hag after just three games in charge, and Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface may be impacted by the decision, Bold Sports reports.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club informed Ten Hag of their decision on Monday morning, with training to be taken over by the assistant coaching staff for the time being as Leverkusen accelerate efforts to appoint a new coach.

Ten Hag’s reign began with a 4-0 DFB-Pokal victory over Sonnenhof Großaspach, but a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim in their Bundesliga opener and a dramatic 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen — sealed by Karim Coulibaly’s last-minute equaliser — triggered concerns within the club’s hierarchy.

For Boniface, the managerial shake-up could prove crucial for his future at the club as under Ten Hag, the Nigerian forward was viewed as the third-choice option up front behind Czech Republic striker Patrik Schick and youngster Christian Kofane.

The situation pushed him to agree personal terms with AC Milan earlier in the summer, but the proposed move collapsed due to fitness concerns. Since then, Boniface has returned to full training, determined to reclaim his place in the team.

With Ten Hag’s exit, the 24-year-old could now have a fresh opportunity to impress the incoming coach and re-establish himself as Bayer Leverkusen’s first-choice striker. The club is expected to move swiftly in appointing a replacement as they look to improve their results going forward.

Since joining Leverkusen, Boniface’s career has been a mix of highs and setbacks due to injuries. He netted 21 goals and provided nine assists in 34 appearances during his debut season, helping the club clinch the Bundesliga title, before managing 11 goals and one assist in 27 games last season.
