Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare has penned a heartfelt goodbye to Belgian side KRC Genk as he prepares to seal a £24m move to Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 24-year-old forward joined Genk in January 2023 from French Ligue 2 side Amiens and quickly established himself as a key part of the Belgian club’s attack. In his two seasons, he scored crucial goals in the Jupiler Pro League and featured in European competitions, building a reputation as a powerful striker with an eye for goal.
Confirming his departure on social media, Arokodare expressed deep appreciation to everyone connected to the club.
“After two years with this club and amazing fans, it’s time for me to take the next step in my career,” he wrote.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank every single teammate, coach and supporter who has been with me on this journey and helped me while I’ve been here. The city of Genk has been nothing but good to me and it will always be a place that I’ll treasure for the special times I’ve had with you all.”
Arokodare added: “I leave proud to have played for this badge and wish the club nothing but success in the future. Thank you for every moment in blue.”
During his time at Genk, Arokodare made over 110 appearances across all competitions, scoring 41 goals and providing several assists. His contributions were key in Genk’s push for the Belgian league title and their runs in European competitions.
Arokodare’s spell in Belgium has been the most productive period of his career to date, following earlier stints with Valmiera in Latvia, Köln in Germany and Amiens in France. His physical presence, aerial strength and ability to hold up play made him a valuable asset for Genk, and those qualities are expected to be key as he takes on the challenge of English football.
His move to Wolves will see him become the latest Nigerian to feature in the Premier League, joining the likes of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka.
