The German Football Association has opened an inquiry into a controversial hand gesture made by Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface towards the VfB Stuttgart bench during their German Super Cup victory on Sunday.
10-man Bayer Leverkusen secured a 4-3 penalty win over Stuttgart on Sunday in the German DFL Super Cup after regulation time had ended 2-2. Boniface, who scored the opening goal for Leverkusen in the match, was accused by Stuttgart players of flashing a middle finger at their bench after the final penalty miss by Stuttgart’s striker Silas.

While video footage of the incident is unclear, the accusation sparked a heated confrontation between Boniface and Stuttgart players. According to Bild, the Nigerian forward will be summoned to explain his actions.
If found guilty, Victor Boniface could face a two-match ban and a fine. If the judgment comes before the start of the season this weekend, he might miss Die Werkself’s opener against Borrusia Monchengladbach and their DFB Pokal first-round game against Carl Zeiss Jena. He, however, will be allowed to appeal.
The 23-year-old joined Leverkusen last summer from Union Saint-Gilloise for €22 million and has been a key player for the club, scoring 21 goals and providing nine assists in 34 games across all competitions.
