Super Eagles and forward, Victor Boniface is one of many strikers on Manchester United’s shortlist according to reputable German Journalist, Florian Plettenburg.
The 23-year-old top striker who is currently injured, is under contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen until 2028, and a sale is considered almost impossible until the summer transfer window.
Due to their attacking woes, the Red Devils have been actively scouting for a striker who can arrive in the winter transfer window, or latest in the summer. They have had a very poor start to both their domestic, and European campaign. In the Premier League, they have conceded 13 goals, only bettered by Arsenal (12), and Liverpool (8).
Meanwhile, going forward, they are one of the worst in the division. They have scored 13 goals, and they have missed 27 big chances, the fourth and third worst respectively in the league. Their two strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have scored only one goal each in the league, and the latter has already been linked with a move away, less than six months into his career at the club.
In stark contrast, Victor Boniface has been on incredible form for Bayer Leverkusen. He has recorded six goals and one assist in just eight Bundesliga starts, he has one goal in the Champions League, and he also scored in the Super Cup final against Stuttgart to win the trophy for his club.
What might stand as a stumbling block for United is Boniface’s lack of preference for playing in the Premier League, which he stated in a recent interview.
“I don’t really like the Premier League. I prefer Spanish football or German football,” he told Sporty TV. “I’ve been saying this even before I had an international passport, even before I dreamed of coming to Europe,” he added.
Manchester United fans will however continue hoping that the interest in the Nigerian striker becomes more concrete as they keep seeking rejuvenation under new coach, Ruben Amorim.
