Nottingham Forest are in advanced discussions to extend Ola Aina’s contract, with the defender set for a significant pay rise, according to The Athletic.
The 28-year-old Nigeria international joined Forest in July 2023 as a free agent after his contract with Torino expired.
With his current deal expiring next summer, there had been concerns that Aina might negotiate with overseas clubs in January.
However, the London-born player, who started his career at Chelsea and had loan stints with Hull City and Fulham, has settled well at the City Ground and has become a key figure in the squad.
Aina’s versatility has been crucial for Forest. Last season, he often played at left-back but has been a regular right-back this campaign, forming a solid back four with Alex Moreno on the opposite flank and Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo in central defense. Despite conceding six goals in their last two games, Forest had one of the best defensive records earlier in the season.
Since joining Forest, Aina has made 32 Premier League starts and two substitute appearances, scoring twice. His powerful runs down the flanks and pace have made him a fan favorite, contributing significantly to the team’s counter-attacking style.
Forest activated an option to extend his initial one-year deal last summer, fending off interest from other clubs. Now, with a new deal close to completion, Aina looks set to continue his journey at the City Ground.
