Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan secured a second-place finish in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Holloway Pro Classic in Florida on Saturday (Friday evening US).
Despite a poor start, Amusan powered to second place in 12.60s against a -1.7 m/s headwind behind America’s Grace Stark.
Stark edged out Amusan for the win by the narrowest of margins, crossing the finish line in 12.58s. US Champion Masai Russell rounded out the podium, taking third place with a time of 12.66s.
In the earlier heat, Amusan dominated the field with a winning time of 12.49s, besting Russell (12.51s) and Great Britain’s Cindy Sember (12.62s).
Denisha Cartwright of the Bahamas finished fourth in the final with 12.79s, while Christina Clemons of the USA came in fifth at 12.88s.
This performance at the Holloway Pro Classic serves as an excellent indicator of Amusan’s form as she continues her preparations for upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
