Former Manchester United striker Luis Saha has made a passionate plea for his old club to pursue Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, warning that “proper strikers are dying” in modern football.
Saha, who enjoyed a successful spell at Old Trafford from 2004 to 2008, scoring 42 goals in 124 games believes the Nigerian international would be the perfect fit for United’s attack.
“My dream summer signing would be Victor Osimhen from Napoli, he would really fit the bill at Old Trafford,” Saha said per Team Talk.
The Frenchman went on to urge Manchester United’s management to pull out all the stops to secure Osimhen’s signature.
“If I was them I’d be doing everything to try and get him from Napoli, I’d love to see him in a United shirt next season,” he added.
Saha’s admiration for Osimhen extends beyond his goal-scoring abilities. He praised the striker’s overall game, saying, “His attitude, his work rate, he is so good in front of goal. He has a belief and confidence that reminds me of David Trezeguet or Ruud van Nistelrooy, strikers who attract the ball to their feet.”
The ex-United player sees in the Nigerian echoes of a dying breed in football – the classic, all-round centre-forward.
“Proper strikers are dying but it’s easy to see that Osimhen is one of them,” Saha added.
Saha’s call for United might be coming too late as there are indications Osimhen who led Napoli to win the Italian league for the first time in 30 years in the 2022/23 season might be headed for PSG.
According to reports, the 25-year-old has already agreed terms with PSG who are seeking a replacement for France Captain Kylian Mbappe who departed for Real Madrid on a free transfer at the end of the season.
