Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili dominated the Holloway Pro Classic, winning both the 100m and 200m events.
Her win set a strong tone for her 2024 Olympic prospects which starts on July 26, with the track and field events holding from August 1 to 11.
In the 100m, despite a poor start, Ofili crossed the finish line in 11.07s, narrowly edging out her training partner, USA’s Candice Hill who recorded the same time.
Leah Bertrand of Trinidad and Tobago took third place with 11.18s. The race was highly competitive, with English Gardner of the USA finishing fourth in 11.27s and Murielle Ahoure-Demps from Ivory Coast coming in fifth at 11.32s.
The time was Ofili’s second fastest this season after winning the national title at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City in 11.08s last month.
Less than an hour later, Ofili returned to the track for the 200m event. She clinched another victory with a time of 22.36s. Candice Hill of the USA again finished second in 22.62 seconds, while Adaejah Hodge from the British Virgin Islands came in third at 22.66s. Kristina Knott of the Philippines and Anna Hall of the USA rounded out the top five with times of 23.29s and 23.81s respectively.
Ofili will hope to show more strength in Paris as she competes at her maiden Olympics.
