The Super Eagles have slipped one position to 39th place in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday.
The new ranking reflects the outcomes of 125 international matches played across various continental competitions and friendlies during June and July.
The Super Eagles now hold 1498.93 points, placing them just behind Ivory Coast (38th) with 1499.69 points.
This latest ranking continued the decline for the Eagles who dropped from 30th to 38th in the ranking released last month.
World Champions Argentina maintains their stronghold on the first position with 1901.48 points, following their successful defense of the Copa América title while France remains in second place with 1854.91 points, with newly crowned European champions Spain surging to third place, gaining five spots.
Beaten European finalists, England, are up one place to fourth, displacing Brazil who are now fifth.
Belgium dropped three places to sixth, while Netherlands maintained their seventh position ahead of Portugal – down two places – in eighth. Colombia – who lost the Copa America final to Argentina moved up three places to ninth, while Italy were unchanged in 10th.
2022 World Cup semifinalists Morocco continued their domination as the best in Africa despite dropping two places to 14th, while Senegal, second in the continent also dropped two places to 19th, and Egypt third, unmoved at 36th.
Ivory Coast down one place to 38th and Nigeria in 39th completed the African top 5 nations.
The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking is scheduled for release on September 19, 2024.
