Fresh facts have emerged on the reason behind the sudden resignation of Finidi George as Super Eagles coach.
Finidi had confirmed to Bold Sports on Saturday that he had stepped down as the coach the Nigeria’s senior football national team just a month after he was unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation.
In his resignation letter which was seen by Bold Sports, Finidi threw in the towel due to the decision of the NFF to appoint a foreign technical adviser.
“I am writing to inform you of my decision to step down as the head coach of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s men’s senior team. This decision is in light of the recent decision to effect changes to the team’s technical crew,” part of the letter read.
The NFF had in a communique issued at the end of its executive meeting on Wednesday, said it would “employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.”
The ex-international failed to win in his two games as Super Eagles coach, drawing South Africa 1-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo before losing 2-1 to Benin Republic – who are coached by former Nigeria’s coach Gernot Rohr – in Abidjan Ivory Coast.
Nigeria sit fifth in the six-team 2026 World Cup qualifying group with three points, four adrift of joint toppers, Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic.
