Former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, has laughed off talks from the Nigerian Football Federation that he sent in an unsigned resignation letter and the NFF President Ibrahim Gusau is unaware of his exit from the job.
George confirmed to Bold Sports on Saturday that he resigned from his position one month after he was appointed to replace Jose Peseiro at the senior national team.
“Yes, I have resigned as Eagles coach,” George replied when our correspondent asked if he left his position.
The 53-year-old was appointed on May 13 in Abuja ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and the Benin Republic.
Finidi’s reign as coach of the Eagles is the shortest ever in the history of the coaching with the three-time African champion in the last decade.
Meanwhile, Gusau has stated that he is unaware the embattled coach, George, tendered his resignation.
“There is no problem if they (the NFF) say I didn’t sign the letter (resignation letter) or they are unaware. There’ll be a day for talks.”
It was understood that the former Ajax winger kicked against working under a foreign technical adviser as this would be a vote of no confidence by his employers against him.
He failed to win his first two official games – the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin earlier this month.
Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup are now in shambles as they languish second from bottom in a six-team group with three points from four matches.
Group leaders Rwanda, South Africa and Benin lead the standings with seven points apiece.
