Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez will begin the new season under a different manager after Scottish giants Rangers confirmed the departure of head coach Danny Röhl by mutual agreement.
The Ibrox club announced on Wednesday that Röhl has accepted an opportunity to join Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg ahead of the new campaign. The German coach leaves alongside first-team performance manager Sascha Lense and analyst Tristan Steiner.
Fernandez heads into this period of change after enjoying the best season of his career. The Nigerian centre-back scored five goals in 33 appearances across all competitions and earned his first-ever call-up to the Super Eagles.
His performances also saw him named Rangers Men’s Player of the Year for the 2025-26 season. In addition, he secured a place in the PFA Premiership Team of the Year, underlining his importance to the Scottish side.
The defender’s impressive displays have attracted attention from clubs in both the Premier League and Bundesliga, leaving his long-term future at Rangers uncertain this summer.

The 37-year-old coach has signed a three-year contract with Red Bull Salzburg and is scheduled to oversee his first training session on Wednesday, June 17.
Before taking charge at Rangers, Röhl built an impressive coaching résumé. He worked alongside Hansi Flick with Bayern Munich and the German national team and also served as an assistant under Ralph Hasenhüttl at Southampton and RB Leipzig.
Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh paid tribute to the departing manager.
”I’d like to thank Danny for his service and commitment to Rangers.
”He and his staff put in a significant amount of hard work during his time in charge, which we are greatly appreciative of.
”We wish them the best of luck moving forward.”
The Scottish club added that a further announcement regarding the vacant managerial position will be made in due course.
