Nigerian-American basketball star Nneka Ogwumike has been re-elected president of the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), extending her leadership of the union into a fourth term.
The veteran forward, who has served as WNBPA president since 2016, was returned by the players following a vote of the union’s membership.
Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier was also elected first vice-president, replacing Kelsey Plum, who opted not to seek another term.
Reacting to her re-election, Ogwumike said she remains committed to advancing players’ interests as the league enters a new era.

“Together, we’ve built one of the most influential unions in sports and we’re just getting started. As I begin my fourth term as President and as we enter this historic new chapter under our transformational CBA, I am energized to continue fighting for the players, advancing our collective vision, and ensuring that the generations who follow us inherit an even stronger league and union than the one we have today.”
Ogwumike has played a central role in shaping the future of the WNBA, overseeing collective bargaining negotiations on two occasions during her presidency.
Under her leadership, the WNBA and its players ratified a landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement in 2020 before agreeing another deal in March this year, widely described as “transformational” for the league and its players.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in women’s basketball, Ogwumike has combined her on-court success with strong advocacy for players throughout her presidency.

The 34-year-old enjoyed an illustrious playing career, winning the 2016 WNBA championship and Most Valuable Player award with the Los Angeles Sparks. She is also a multiple-time WNBA All-Star and Olympic gold medallist.
Born to Nigerian parents, Ogwumike has become one of the most influential voices in global women’s basketball, representing players during one of the most significant periods of growth in the WNBA.
With her re-election, Ogwumike will continue to lead the players’ association as the league enters another crucial phase marked by expansion, increased investment and the implementation of its new collective bargaining agreement.
