Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi believes Nigeria has the firepower to win the Africa Cup of Nations for the fourth time at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The team’s qualification was sealed on Thursday after Rwanda’s 1-0 loss to Libya. Later that day, Nigeria secured a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic, with Victor Osimhen’s equaliser cementing their place as Group D leaders with one game left.
The Super Eagles are determined to end their 12-year AFCON title drought, and Ndidi is confident that this could be their year. In an exclusive interview with Victor Modo, he expressed optimism about the team’s chances, drawing parallels with their strong performance in the 2023 edition in Ivory Coast.
“We have it in us to push,” Ndidi said. “This is a great team. We’ve got amazing players doing incredible things at their clubs. We know the quality we have, so why not?”
Ndidi highlighted the team’s unity as a key strength. “There’s no clique here. New players blend in easily because it’s one group. We’re humble and down to earth, and that makes a difference.”
He also praised the global recognition players like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and William Troost-Ekong have received. “It feels so good. A few years ago, it was tough for Nigerians to even get nominated for awards. Now, it’s our time, and we should enjoy it,” he said.
Looking ahead, Ndidi believes the future is bright for the Super Eagles. “We’re still young, and there are more opportunities for us to shine. It’s an amazing achievement and a proud moment for us,” he added.
