Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has earned a reputation as Nigeria’s go-to man for crucial moments. The midfielder’s knack for delivering in high-pressure situations has cemented his place in the hearts of Super Eagles fans. His memorable performances at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo include a vital equaliser against South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers and a dramatic late winner in a tight encounter against Libya.
These decisive contributions have sparked calls from fans for the Lazio star to get more playing time.
Speaking about his role in an interview with Making of Champions, Dele-Bashiru emphasised his focus on team success rather than personal glory.
“Of course, I understand the importance of the goals, but the main thing for me is giving a good performance and showcasing myself for the fans,” he said in a recent interview. “A goal that helps the team to victory means I’ve done my job.”
Dele-Bashiru credits his elder brother, Tom Dele-Bashiru, as a key influence in his career. “When I was growing up, he was my biggest motivation. He was doing so well while I struggled, especially during my time at Manchester City. Seeing him thrive pushed me to improve myself,” he revealed.
Now thriving at Lazio, Fisayo believes the best is yet to come. “I think I’m at a good stage, but I’m not done yet—there’s more to come,” he confidently added.
