On Day 4, Match 7 of the ongoing 5th Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) Women’s Invitational Tournament (Patricia Kambarami Cup) at the TBS Cricket Oval, Lagos, Captain Lucky Piety delivered a match-winning performance, smashing an unbeaten 66 off 35 balls, while Zimbabwe Women’s U-19 set a new tournament record with 226 runs in a dominant 180-run victory over Ghana.

South Africa Women’s U-19 vs Nigeria

Nigeria secured a dramatic Super Over victory against South Africa Women’s U-19 in one of the most thrilling encounters of the tournament.

With both sides already tasting defeat earlier in the competition, the stakes were high, and the intensity reflected it. South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first.

Nigeria struck early, removing Ashley Bernad for a duck at the end of the first over. Jeze Campher followed soon after for just 1 run, leaving South Africa struggling at 2 for 2 after four overs. By the end of the powerplay, they had crawled to 18 for 3.

However, captain Mieke Van Voorst steadied the innings with a composed and authoritative knock. Her 69 off 47 balls, alongside late contributions from Siphokuhle Masilela (20 off 15) and Jae Leigh Filander (16 off 21), lifted South Africa to a competitive 133/6 in 20 overs.

Nigeria’s chase began cautiously, with Amusa Kehinde and Christabel Chukuonye struggling to accelerate. Amusa fell for 9, with Nigeria at 13/1, and the innings lacked momentum through the middle overs.

The turning point came with the arrival of captain Lucky Piety.

In a true display of leadership, Piety launched a counterattack that shifted the game entirely. Her sensational unbeaten 66 off 35 balls, including a remarkable 24-run over, rescued Nigeria from the brink and forced the match into a Super Over. Chukuonye provided support with a patient 26 before retiring out.

Lucky Piety was deservedly named Player of the Match for her match-defining performance.

DAY 5: MATCH 10

Zimbabwe Women’s U-19 delivered a dominant all-round performance to dismantle Ghana by 180 runs, setting a new tournament record in the process.

After winning the toss and batting first, Zimbabwe’s opening pair came out blazing. Nicollete Nyika scored a quick 20 off 12 balls before departing, but Beloved Biza took control of the innings in emphatic fashion.

Biza produced a stunning unbeaten 102 off 52 balls, supported brilliantly by Lorraine Pemhiwa, who added an unbeaten 60 off 32 balls. Zimbabwe posted a massive 226 runs, the highest total of the tournament.

Ghana’s response never gained traction, as Zimbabwe’s bowlers dominated from the outset. Ghana were bowled out for just 45 runs in 18.3 overs.

Salem Museka led the bowling attack with figures of 4 for 8, while Biza capped off a perfect performance with 3 wickets for 10 runs.

Beloved Biza was named Player of the Match for her outstanding all-round display.
