Ikorodu City continued their impressive run of form in the Nigeria Professional Football League as they held Niger Tornadoes to a 0-0 draw on Saturday at Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.
Ikorodu City interim coach, Nurudeen Aweroro recalled Chinonso Chineme to the starting line up as he led the team in front. James Faith continued in goal while Olatunji Abdulmalik, Oyedokun Tosin, and Ayemwenre Rivio started as a midfield trio.
Niger Tornadoes started out on the front foot as they sought to take advantage of the home support and their familiarity with the playing surface to take control of the game. Within the first 30 minutes, they had created multiple chances, however, James Faith pulled off astonishing saves to keep the game level.
The Oga boys started gaining some possession in the second half. They looked more settled and they created their own chances, however, they were unable to break the deadlock. They made several changes with the aim of taking the game to the hosts and pushing for all three points. However, Niger Tornadoes’ defense remained unshaken. At the end, both teams has to settle for a point each.
With the draw, Ikorodu City and Niger Tornadoes are tied on 18 points after 13 matches. However, Ikorodu City are ahead on goal difference. The newly promoted team are seventh on the table, and they are now unbeaten in four games, highlighting the rapid strides the team has achieved in recent months.
The Lagos based team host El Kanemi Warriors in their next game, and a win would take them just one point off the Desert Warriors who are third on the table. Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes, who have now been unable to score in two consecutive games, will visit Bayelsa United in their next game as they hope to rediscover their form.
