Former Manchester United youth coach Jonathan Hill has expressed interest in becoming the next head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Following the Super Eagles’ qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly turning its focus back to appointing a permanent head coach.
Hill, who recently left his role as assistant manager at Rotherham, revealed in an interview with Sports Boom that he has submitted his resume to the NFF and is keen on taking on the challenge.
“This is a role I very much fancy because of its demanding nature and the push to deliver top results,” Hill said. He emphasized his experience with young talent and familiarity with adapting to different environments, having coached in countries with diverse climates.
“I’ve always known Nigerian players to be athletic, technical, and full of energy,” he added. “There’s a great talent pool here, and I believe in nurturing young players who fit the team’s philosophy.”
The 54-year-old was youth coach at Manchester United between 1999 and 2009 before having a brief stint with Manchester City after two years as Academy Coach in Jordan. He was also assistant manager at Fulham, Exeter City and Rotherham.
He highlighted his vision for the Super Eagles and stressed the importance of integrating new talents while maintaining the team’s core strengths.
“Just because there are established players doesn’t mean we shouldn’t look for fresh talent,” he said. “The NPFL has good players, and I’m confident some can make a mark with the national team if given a chance.”
Hill also expressed his readiness to relocate to Nigeria, noting his adaptability to various conditions. “I’ve lived in climates ranging from -22°C to 55°C. I’m comfortable with the heat and excited about the cultural and sporting experience,” he stated.
“Working with the Super Eagles would be an exciting challenge,” Hill added. “Hopefully, we’ll have the chance to discuss the next steps soon.”
