AC Milan are on the verge of completing the signing of Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen, with the Nigerian striker expected to arrive in Milan this afternoon at 4pm ahead of his scheduled medicals, according to transfer expert Matteo Moretto.

The two clubs reached an agreement over a loan deal worth around €5 million, with Milan retaining the option to make the move permanent next summer for an additional €24 million. If exercised, Boniface will sign a four-year contract, taking the total package close to €30 million.

When asked about the transfer during his pre-match press conference, Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri declined to confirm the deal out of respect for Leverkusen: “At the moment he’s not a Milan player, so I won’t talk about him out of respect for the other club,” he said.

Despite being linked with Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund and Sporting Lisbon’s Conrad Harder, Boniface was viewed internally as Milan’s priority target, with sporting director Igli Tare pushing hard to secure his signature.

The 24-year-old striker’s arrival is expected to bolster Allegri’s attacking options, with the club aiming to recover from last season’s disappointing campaign, where they finished eighth in Serie A.

Boniface endured a mixed spell at Bayer Leverkusen, featuring in 27 matches across all competitions last season, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist. In his debut season, however, he played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-winning campaign, netting 21 goals and delivering nine assists in 34 appearances.

Barring any last-minute complications, Boniface is expected to complete his medicals and officially become a Milan player in the coming days.
