Rwanda’s national football team, the Amavubi, are set to arrive in Nigeria today ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles on November 18th.
Amavubi’s qualification hopes took a hit after a 1-0 loss to Libya on Thursday, Fahd Saad Mohamed’s 84th-minute goal breaking the hearts of the Rwandan football faithful.
The result leaves them trailing Benin by two points, meaning they must defeat Nigeria in Uyo and hope for a Libyan victory over Benin to keep their AFCON dream alive.
While this match is a dead rubber for Nigeria, having already secured qualification, interim coach Austin Eguavoen may use it as an opportunity to test fringe players. However, Rwanda will be desperate for a win to salvage their campaign.
The Amavubi are arriving early to acclimatize to the Nigerian environment, recognizing the significance of the match. Their primary objective is to secure a victory and put pressure on Benin, hoping for a favorable result in the other game.
Rwanda healed Nigeria to a goalless draw in their first meeting in September at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
