Ademola Lookman has been nominated for the prestigious Men’s Player of the Year award at the 15th Beyond Developments Dubai Globe Soccer Awards, set to take place on December 27, 2024.
This nomination follows Lookman’s earlier recognition as a Ballon d’Or nominee, cementing his place among football’s elite. He joins a star-studded list of 32 other players, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappé, and Mohamed Salah.
Others also nominated are 2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, Vinicius Junior, Nicolo Barella, Jude Bellingham, Hakan Calhanoglu, Dani Carvajal, Artem Dovbyk, Phil Foden, Antoine Griezmann, Alejandro Grimaldo, Viktor Gyokeres and Harry Kane.
Toni Kroos, Robert Lewandowski, Emiliano Martinez, Lautaro Martinez, Dani Olmo, Cole Palmer, Rodrygo, Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Federico Valverde, Vitinha, Nico Williams, Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, and Lamine Yamal were also nominated.
The Nigerian forward enjoyed a remarkable 2023/2024 season with Atalanta, scoring 17 goals and providing 9 assists in 45 matches. His standout performances included a Europa League-winning hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen, which also ended their unbeaten run. Lookman’s efforts earned him Atalanta’s Player of the Season award and a spot in the Europa League Team of the Tournament.
For Nigeria, Lookman was pivotal during the AFCON qualifiers and finals. He netted three goals and provided one assist, guiding the Super Eagles to the final, where they narrowly lost to Ivory Coast. His performances saw him named in the AFCON Team of the Tournament and made him a strong contender for the CAF African Player of the Year award.
Victor Osimhen won the Emerging Player of the Year award at the Globe Soccer Awards in 2022 after his impressive year with Napoli.
