Nigerian striker Akor Adams scored a brace to lead Montpellier to their first win of the season, defeating Auxerre 3-2 in a thrilling match at the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday.
Montpellier, who had struggled to find their rhythm this season, were eager to secure a victory and get their campaign back on track. However, they faced an early setback when Hamed Junior Traorè gave Auxerre the lead in the 18th minute.

Adams stepped up to equalize in the 65th minute, providing Montpellier with a much-needed boost. Center-back Modibo Sagnan then put the hosts ahead in the 71st minute, but Auxerre responded quickly with an equalizer from Ado Onaiwu just a minute later.
Adams once again proved to be the hero, scoring the winning goal in the 75th minute. The victory brought relief to manager Michel Der Zakarian, who had endured a four-game winless streak. It also temporarily lifted Montpellier out of the relegation zone, though it’s still too early to predict which teams will face relegation at the end of the season.
After the match, Adams expressed his delight with the win and his personal contribution to Montpellier’s first victory of the season.
“I feel happy for the whole group and myself as well. It could have been three or four goals but I’m happy with the three points and we just have to keep going, keep trying and we’ll get good results,” the Nigerian said after the game.
The brace takes Adams’ tally of the season to three goals and one assist in five Ligue 1 games. He was shown a yellow card for removing his shirt after scoring his second goal.
