Aberdeen have signed Nigerian defensive midfielder Afeez Aremu, adding further depth to their squad during the winter transfer window.
The 26-year-old arrives at Pittodrie from German club Kaiserslautern, committing his future to the Dons with a contract that runs until 2028. His arrival continues a busy recruitment period for the Scottish side, who are still operating without a permanent manager.
Aremu brings with him extensive experience from across Europe. Prior to his time at Kaiserslautern, he featured for IK Start in Norway and also had a spell in Germany with Bundesliga outfit St Pauli, building a reputation as a combative and dependable presence in midfield.
The midfielder becomes Aberdeen’s fifth signing of the winter window, following the additions of Lyall Cameron, Liam Morrison, Toyosi Olusanya and Per Kristian Bratveit, as the club looks to reshape its squad for the remainder of the season.

Speaking after completing his move, Aremu expressed his enthusiasm for the next stage of his career.
”I’m excited to be here. I’ve been made to feel really welcome, and I can’t wait to get started,” he told Aberdeen’s website.
He added: “I like new challenges and I think Aberdeen offers that. For me, I am growing and taking the next step in my career so it’s a huge move.”
Aremu also outlined what supporters can expect from his style of play, ”I’m an aggressive player but I have other attributes to my game. There is a lot to play for this season and I want to strengthen the team to help them achieve good things.”

Aberdeen sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel believes the midfielder’s physical presence will add an important dimension to the squad.
“Afeez is going to bring a real physical edge to the squad, something which I think we have been looking for,” he said.
With his blend of strength, experience and tactical understanding, Aremu is expected to play a key role as Aberdeen push forward through the remainder of the campaign.
