Nigerian midfielder, Aremu Afeez, says he’s excited to continue his development with German Bundesliga II side St Pauli after agreeing to a long term contract extension with the club on Friday.
The club announced the news of the contract extension today. Aremu joined St Pauli in the summer of 2020 from Swedish side IK Start with his previous contract due to expire in June 2023.
Aremu, a tough tackling defensive midfielder has been a key player for the club since joining making a total of 53 appearances which includes 12 this season nine of them from the start. Reacting to the extension, the former Akwa United star has vowed to repay the club’s confidence in him with good performances.
“Hamburg has become our second home for my family and I, so I’m happy to be playing for FC St. Pauli in the years to come. I thank the club for their support and trust, which I would like to repay with good performances,” Aremu told the club website.
Head coach of the team, Fabian Hürzeler, says the quality the midfielder possess made it easy for the club to commit to extending his deal.
“Afeez is one of the best tacklers in our squad. His defensive qualities were obvious from the start, but he also improved when playing with the ball. We also see further potential in him in this area, also because he is very willing to develop further. That’s why I’m very pleased that he will continue on his path with us.”
