Rwanda’s national men’s football team, the Amavubi, have intensified their preparations ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The two sides are set to clash on Tuesday at Kigali’s Amahoro Stadium.
Nigeria comes into the match with momentum after a dominant 3-0 victory over the Republic of Benin. In contrast, Rwanda played to a 1-1 draw against Libya last Wednesday at the June 11 Stadium in Tripoli, Sudan, with Innocent Nshuti’s 47th-minute goal equalizing Bubhi Al Dahwi’s early strike in the 16th minute. Rwanda will be eager to return to winning form.

With more days to recover since their last game, the Amavubi have had additional time to gear up for what is expected to be their toughest challenge in the group. On Saturday, they secured a 1-0 win in a friendly match against Police FC, further sharpening their readiness for the Super Eagles.
Under the leadership of German coach Torsten Spittler, Rwanda has lost just once in their last seven matches, including an impressive 2-0 win over South Africa in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier. They will aim to extend this strong form against a rejuvenated Nigerian side.
This match will also serve as a precursor to the two teams’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, scheduled for November 19.
