Nigeria’s U-18 women’s basketball team, the Junior Tigress, suffered their second defeat at the ongoing FIBA U-18 Women’s Afrobasket, falling 80-64 to Uganda on Sunday.
Both teams were vying for an automatic spot in the quarterfinals from Group B. Despite a strong start by the Nigerian team, they struggled to sustain their momentum as Uganda staged a comeback to win by 16 points.
The Junior Tigress took the first quarter 23-19, but Uganda dominated the remaining quarters, outscoring Nigeria 22-16, 17-10, and 22-15 to secure their second win of the tournament.
Uganda’s Resty Nanangwe was the standout player, recording a double-double with a game-high 31 points and 10 rebounds, along with four assists and two steals. Teammate Christine Namyalo added 21 points, three assists, and three steals.

For Nigeria, Idubamo Beggi led the scoring with 16 points, five assists, and three steals, while Wandoo Marvis Hembam contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.
Uganda shot 36.3% from the field (44% from two-point range, 23.3% from beyond the arc, and 57% from the free-throw line), while Nigeria managed only 24.4% field goal shooting (31% from two-point range, 19.2% from three-point range, and 54.2% from the free-throw line).
