Edo Queens Coach Moses Aduku has said he is not getting carried away with his team’s 3-0 win over CBE FC in their first game of the CAF Women’s Champions League but is committed to treating every match as if it were a cup final.
The tactician complimented the Ethiopians for making the game difficult while also praising his team for finishing off their chances in his post-match press conference following the team’s victory.
He said, “Wonderful game, victory is sweet, we are grateful we won the game, we got our chances and we took them, but honestly I must tell you the game was tough. The Ethiopian side are no pushovers, we denied them of playing their game and we tried to take our opportunities.
“If you are to stay in a competition, you need to win your first game, so that is the mind set we came with.”
He also reinstated this when asked about the significance of winning the first game.
“We know definitely for us to stay in the competition, we need to win. We might be a first timer but of course if you win, you have the opportunity of moving ahead.”
Speaking ahead of the game against FC Masar, Aduku dispelled claims that it will be an easy match as he said, “Defeating the defending champions gives them confidence. For me, we did not come here to underrate any team. One of the things I told my girls is that every team that is here are potential champions so we need to play like it is a cup final and our game against Masar will be like a cup final.”
Edo Queens FC will face off against FC Masar at Stade Larbi Zaouli on Wednesday as they aim to continue their bright start to the tournament in Morocco.
