Nigeria’s Abdul Jabar Adama etched his name into the history books by winning the country’s first-ever medal at the World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni, Romania.
The 18-year-old sensation clinched silver in the men’s 50m butterfly event with an impressive time of 23.64 seconds.
Adama finished just behind Britain’s Dean Fearn, who took gold in 23.54 seconds, while Czech Republic’s Jan Foltyn secured bronze with a time of 23.65 seconds, narrowly behind the Nigerian swimmer.

This remarkable achievement comes on the heels of Adama’s record-breaking performance at the 2025 Africa Junior Swimming Championships in May, where he set a new competition record of 23.89 seconds to claim gold, breaking the record twice in one event.
With this latest feat, Adama not only brings home Nigeria’s first medal at the global junior stage but also signals a bright future for the nation in competitive swimming.
