Calvin Bassey has reacted to Fulham’s 3-2 loss to Chelsea in their opening Premier League game of the 2026/27 season at Craven Cottage on Monday night.
The Super Eagles defender captained the home side in the absence of injured midfielder Tom Cairney and Joachim Andersen, who was suspended for the clash.
Despite their impressive performance, Fulham were unable to get a result as the Blues were clinical with Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers, and Cole Palmer all scoring for the visitors, securing three points in Xabi Alonso’s first game as Chelsea manager.
Reacting to the thrilling game, Calvin Bassey wrote on his Instagram handle: “Good fight, unlucky we couldn’t take it back. We carry on building. Thanks for the support.”

After Chelsea had taken the lead just 32 seconds in through Joao Pedro’s clinical finish, 19-year-old Joshua King scored the equaliser in the 23rd minute, drawing the game level with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
The visitors regained the lead in the 41st minute through debutant Morgan Rogers, and Cole Palmer made it 3-1 early in the second half, giving Alonso’s side a clear advantage.
However, just five minutes after Palmer’s goal, 22-year-old Gonzalo García, who was recently signed from Real Madrid, found the net to reduce the deficit, raising the hosts’ hopes of a comeback.
Despite their efforts to get another goal in the closing stages of the match, Fulham were unable to score as Chelsea held on to secure victory, giving them a winning start to the Xabi Alonso era.
The Blues will be back in action on Thursday when they face Luton in the EFL Cup. Fulham will also play on the same day as they host Wimbledon, with Arbeloa eager to get his first win.
