Chidozie Awaziem has credited his Konyaspor teammates after delivering the best goalscoring performance of his career against Gençlerbirliği, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigerian defender scored twice in Sunday’s 2-0 Turkish Super Lig victory. He now has two league goals in seven appearances this season, following his first career brace.

Rather than take all the credit, Awaziem highlighted the collective effort behind his achievement. His comments reflected the importance he places on teamwork after a memorable afternoon in Konya.

Awaziem puts team effort ahead of personal achievement

Speaking after the final whistle, the 29-year-old praised his teammates for their determination to secure all three points.

“First of all, I congratulate my team for their performance. Everyone gave their all to win the three points. I am very happy with the performance of my teammates,” he said, as stated by Pusulahaber.

Awaziem’s words came after he delivered the decisive contribution at the MEDAŞ Konya Büyükşehir Stadium. He broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute before scoring again shortly after the restart.

His second goal arrived in the 56th minute, giving Konyaspor a two-goal cushion. The hosts maintained that advantage to claim victory in the ninth round of the Turkish Super Lig.

The defender then returned to the same message when discussing his individual performance. He acknowledged his achievement but insisted that his teammates deserved recognition.

“Everyone gave their all. I scored two goals, but I scored those two goals thanks to my teammates. I am also proud of my own performance.”

A timely contribution for Konyaspor

Awaziem’s brace carried significance beyond his personal milestone. The victory ended Konyaspor’s three-match winless run in the league and lifted them to 14th place with eight points.

The former Nantes defender has also made the most of his opportunities in the starting team. He stepped up in the absence of captain Adil Demirbağ and delivered a performance that directly determined the result.

Konyaspor now face another demanding league fixture against Galatasaray on October 30. Awaziem will hope to maintain his level of performance as the club seeks greater consistency.

For the Nigerian international, however, his immediate satisfaction comes from a personal milestone achieved through collective effort. His post-match message made that clear: the goals carried his name, but he believes the achievement belonged to the team.
