…Ashleigh Plumptre expected to make Justin Madugu final WAFCON 2026 squad

Super Falcons defender Ashleigh Plumptre has debunked a viral Facebook post falsely attributed to her, alleging that she accused the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of corruption after being omitted from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The post, shared by a Facebook account bearing Plumptre’s name and profile picture, has been circulating online and contains allegations that the defender was excluded from the national team after refusing to comply with demands from certain NFF officials.

The fake post read: “I have just been excluded from the squad for the upcoming WAFCON by certain corrupt officials who demanded something from me that I could not and would never offer.

“If my talent, hard work, dedication and commitment to representing my country are not enough to earn my place in the team, then perhaps it is time for me to step back.

“This hurts deeply because wearing the national colours has always been an honour I never took for granted. But I can never go against my values just to earn a call-up. Never.”

This is not the first time misinformation has been spread through a fake Facebook account falsely linked to the Al-Ittihad defender.

Responding to a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by sports content creator Dr. Ademola Victor, who resurfaced a previous video in which Plumptre stated that she does not own a Facebook account, the defender reiterated that she remains absent from the platform and urged fans to disregard any posts attributed to her on Facebook.

Quoting the video, Plumptre wrote: “1 year later, same things happening. Don’t follow any Facebook account for reallll.”

She also responded to a separate post by Instablog on X, simply stating: “Not true,” she replied to the post.

The incident highlights a recurring trend of fake social media accounts spreading misinformation under the names of Super Falcons players. Apart from Plumptre, similar false statements have previously been attributed to Jennifer Echegini and, more recently, Esther Okoronkwo, with both players publicly distancing themselves from the fabricated posts.
