Raphael Onyedika enjoyed a memorable competitive debut for Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday as the Bundesliga side cruised to an emphatic 11-0 victory over St. Tönis in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

The Super Eagles midfielder, who recently completed his move to Frankfurt from Belgian side Club Brugge, was handed a starting role and remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

Although Onyedika did not register a goal or assist, the Nigerian midfielder produced a composed performance in the heart of Frankfurt’s midfield, helping his side control the tempo as they dominated the contest from start to finish.

Frankfurt wasted little time asserting their superiority, with Jonathan Burkardt opening the scoring in the fourth minute. Robin Koch doubled the advantage six minutes later before Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab made it 3-0 in the 18th minute.

Burkardt struck again in the 29th minute before Can Uzun added two goals in the space of three minutes to take Frankfurt’s lead to 6-0.

Burkardt completed his hat-trick in the 41st minute, with Elias Baum and Younes Ebnoutalib then joining the scoring spree. Mario Götze added another before the break as Frankfurt headed into half-time with an astonishing 10-0 advantage.

With the tie effectively decided in the first 45 minutes, Frankfurt took their foot off the gas in the second half while continuing to dominate possession and create opportunities.

They then added another goal in the 87th minute when substitute Farès Chaïbi found the net to complete an 11-0 demolition of their lower-league opponents.

The comprehensive victory sends Frankfurt into the second round of the DFB-Pokal, where they are likely to face considerably tougher opposition.

Attention will now turn to the Bundesliga, with Frankfurt scheduled to begin their league campaign on August 29 away to Union Berlin.

For Onyedika, the commanding cup victory represents an encouraging first step as he begins life in Germany. The midfielder will now look to build on his impressive debut and establish himself as a regular starter for Adolf Hütter’s side as the season progresses.
