Former Didier Drogba successor talk has resurfaced, with Victor Osimhen emerging as a leading candidate to lead the line for Chelsea FC. Ex-midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes the Nigerian forward has the mentality to succeed where others have struggled in the Premier League.

‎Osimhen has maintained strong attacking output this season with Galatasaray SK, contributing 20 goals and seven assists in all competitions. He remains one of Europe’s most consistent forwards. His performances continue to draw attention despite his exit from SSC Napoli, where he previously led the line with distinction.

‎Chelsea’s search for a reliable striker has stretched for years. Several high-profile arrivals have failed to replicate Drogba’s dominance. The iconic No.9 shirt now carries pressure and expectation.

‎Emmanuel Petit, speaking on Andy’s Bet Club, believes Victor Osimhen can change that narrative.

‎”Victor Osimhen is doing well with Galatasaray but when he left Napoli, I was hoping that he was going to come to the Premier League, I have no idea why he chose Galatasaray.”

‎“Since Drogba, I think there’s been a curse around the number nine at Chelsea. I think it’s different with Osimhen because this guy has a really big personality and character, he could be the man to break that curse.”

‎Petit pointed to Osimhen’s physical style and mindset as key strengths. He believes the forward’s aggressive approach would trouble defenders in England.

‎”The way he plays on the pitch is a pain for defenders,” he added. “This guy is very aggressive. He has something to prove. After he left France for Napoli, he did great in Italy. But then he was fighting with the president of Napoli, and then he went to Galatasaray.”

‎”I think Osimhen has many seasons to play at the highest level. So I think that could be something very, very good for the Premier League. I think he has the character, the personality, and the background to play in the Premier League.”

‎Chelsea continue to monitor attacking options as they plan long-term recruitment. Osimhen remains firmly on their radar.

‎With proven scoring ability and strong mentality, he represents a potential solution to a problem that has lingered since Drogba’s era.
