Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen etched his name into Galatasaray history on Wednesday night, becoming the club’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian International achieved the milestone in dramatic fashion, scoring in extra time of the knockout phase playoff against Juventus to seal a pulsating 7–5 aggregate victory for the Turkish champions and book their place in the Round of 16.
Following his outstanding display, the striker was named the official Player of the Match, the fourth time he has claimed the accolade in this season’s Champions League campaign.
Osimhen’s goal was his seventh in this season’s Champions League campaign, achieved in just eight appearances, a remarkable scoring rate that has rewritten the club’s record books. In doing so, he surpassed Brazilian forward Mario Jardel, who previously held the mark with six goals in 14 appearances.

The 27-year-old also sits above some other legendary names in Galatasaray’s Champions League scoring charts. Dutch playmaker Wesley Sneijder managed four goals in 23 games, while Ivorian icon Didier Drogba scored three times in 12 appearances during his stint in Istanbul.
With Galatasaray now through to the last 16, Osimhen has another milestone within reach. He is closing in on the club’s record for most goals in a single Champions League campaign, held by former Turkish striker and current Gaziantep manager Burak Yılmaz who scored eight goals in nine appearances during the 2012-13 season.
Attention now turns to Friday’s draw, where Galatasaray will discover whether they face Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur in the Round of 16. For Osimhen, Wednesday night was about making history. The next challenge will be extending it.
