‎Egypt captain Mohamed Salah has urged his team to remain measured as they prepare for the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

After a hard-fought 3–1 Round of 16 victory over Benin, Salah pointed out that the squad, mostly composed of players from the domestic league, should not be labeled as frontrunners.

‎“I don’t think Egypt is the number one candidate to win the title, because most of our players play in the local league. We’ll see how far we can go in this tournament,” the Pharaohs captain said.

‎The Round of 16 match required extra time to decide, with Salah scoring the decisive goal to secure the win and demonstrate his ability to perform in crucial moments.

Egypt, holders of seven AFCON titles, will face the winner of the Ivory Coast vs Burkina Faso tie in the quarterfinals. Cote d’Ivoire, as defending champions, are among the strongest teams, while Burkina Faso aims to continue its surprising run.

‎Coach Hossam Hassan stressed the importance of respecting all opponents while keeping focus on an eighth championship. The Liverpool forward’s cautious message helps lower pressure, ensuring the Pharaohs approach the remaining rounds with composure and determination.
