The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has clarified reports surrounding Super Eagles striker Akor Adams, confirming that the forward did not abandon the team camp during the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

According to the NFF, Adams was granted permission to briefly leave the team camp in Fès to visit his mother, who had been hospitalised in the city, and returned within an hour.

“Akor Adams took permission to go and see his mother who was hospitalised here in Fès, and returned in less than an hour,” NFF Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor said in an email to Bold Sports, dismissing speculation about the player’s absence.

Adams, who scored his first-ever AFCON goal in Nigeria’s win over Mozambique, had earlier revealed that the strike was dedicated to his mother, who had been hospitalised just before the game.

Despite learning of his mother’s condition before kick-off, the Sevilla striker started the match and capped Nigeria’s dominant performance with a goal, underlining his commitment to the team at a crucial stage of the tournament.

His availability for Nigeria’s quarter-final fixture remains unchanged, with no indication from the Super Eagles camp that the striker will miss the next match.

Nigeria will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the quarter-finals scheduled for Saturday, as the Super Eagles continue their push for a fourth AFCON title.

Editor’s Note

An earlier version of this story attributed a statement regarding Akor Adams’ situation to the Nigeria Football Federation’s official social media account. Bold Sports has since confirmed that the quoted post did not originate from an official NFF handle. The story has been updated to reflect the NFF’s official clarification and correct the attribution.
