Super Eagles forward Akor Adams has dedicated his first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) goal, scored against Mozambique, to his mother, disclosing that she was unable to attend the match because she was in the hospital at the time, Bold Sports reports.

Akor Adams was involved in three of Nigeria’s goals in the 4-0 thrashing on Monday. He set up the first two goals and then capped off the win in the 75th minute with a powerful finish into the roof of the net, sealing victory in the round of 16 encounter.

It marked the striker’s third goal for the Super Eagles, extending his remarkable form since making his national team debut in October 2025 against Lesotho.

“The goal is dedicated to my mum, she’s supposed to be here but she’s at the hospital right now,” Akor Adams revealed in the mixed zone after the game.

The Super Eagles are now set to face either Algeria or DR Congo in the quarterfinals on January 10. The 25-year-old striker stressed that while there’s little time for major changes, the team must focus on taking each game as it comes.

“Every game is different, we played Mozambique, I don’t know who we play in the next game, but whoever it is, we’ll try to work on the details. There’s no time to make big adjustments, we have to brush it off, go game by game, and we hope we come out good.”

With Victor Osimhen leading the line, Akor Adams often operates as a second striker, roaming the box and capitalising on spaces. He has proven vital in that role, with his two assists highlighting his influence on the team.

“The philosophy of the coach is first about the team. We’re brothers and we have to look out for each other. If this is the capacity I get to play in the team, I’m privileged. It’s all about representing Nigeria and that’s what matters,” Adams said.
