Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has revealed that he is not focused on winning the Africa Cup of Nations top scorer award, choosing instead to concentrate fully on helping Nigeria lift the trophy.

Lookman is currently one goal behind tournament top scorer Brahim Diaz and is tied for second place with three goals from three games alongside Mali’s Lassine Sinayok, Morocco’s Ayoub El Kaabi, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez, and teammate Victor Osimhen.

In addition to his three goals, the Atalanta forward leads the tournament in assists with four, ahead of Senegal’s Sadio Mané, who has three assists in four games. Despite being a frontrunner for the Golden Boot, Lookman insists his focus remains on helping the Super Eagles secure their fourth AFCON title.

“No. Personally, I’m just thinking about the team winning,” Lookman said at the post-match press conference, per Elegbete TV.

“Now we’re in the quarterfinals, and our next opponent will be another strong team. We scored four goals against Mozambique, and it was a big performance from the team, that’s what I care about.”

Lookman previously scored three goals at the last AFCON in Ivory Coast and was named in the tournament’s Best XI, alongside teammate and former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, who was named the competition’s Most Valuable Player.
