The Super Eagles of Nigeria kick off their AFCON 2025 campaign today against Tanzania in Group C, with head coach Éric Chelle naming an attacking starting line-up for the clash at the Fez Stadium.

Still seeking a positive response after Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Chelle has opted for a selection designed to assert authority from the opening minutes and set the tone for the tournament.

Stanley Nwabali continues as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, trusted to marshal the defence against the Taifa Stars. The back four features Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi at centre-back, with Bright Osayi-Samuel and Zaidu Sanusi providing energy and width from full-back positions.

In midfield, newly appointed captain Wilfred Ndidi anchors the side, offering protection and balance, while Alex Iwobi is tasked with driving Nigeria’s creativity and linking play between midfield and attack.

Up front, Victor Osimhen leads the line, supported by Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze on the flanks. In a notable tactical call, Chelle includes Akor Adams alongside Osimhen, signalling an aggressive 4-4-2 approach as the Super Eagles look to put Tanzania under early pressure.

Nigeria will be targeting a winning start as they open their AFCON 2025 journey with ambition and intent.
