…D’Tigers to face Tunisia in World Cup qualifiers on Thursday
Nigeria’s D’Tigers have dropped 11 places to 53rd in the latest FIBA world rankings and slipped two spots in Africa, according to the rankings released on Tuesday by the world governing body FIBA.
The new rankings were calculated using FIBA’s updated technology ahead of the first window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to run from November 24 to December 2, 2025.
Nigeria was previously ranked 42nd in the world and sixth in Africa in the March update, but a disappointing performance at the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket contributed significantly to their latest decline.

Outside Morocco and Tunisia, which fell 16 and 14 places respectively, Nigeria are the third-biggest dropper in the latest rankings, with the Virgin Islands (-10) and Kosovo (-8) completing the top five.
D’Tigers will be hoping to get their rankings back up this week when Window 1 of the African qualifiers tips off on Thursday in Rades, Tunisia, with eight teams hoping to get their World Cup qualifying campaign on the right track.

D’Tigers are scheduled to face hosts Tunisia in their opening fixture on Thursday, before taking on Guinea on November 29 and Rwanda on November 30.
However, preparations appear far from ideal, as the team is yet to fully assemble in Rades, Tunisia, less than 48 hours before their first game.
