Tributes and condolences have continued to pour in following the tragic passing of 10-year-old Ethan Ade-Oduwale, a promising Charlton Athletic academy player of Nigerian descent.

The club announced the heartbreaking news on Tuesday, describing Ethan as a “cherished member” of the academy’s Under-10s team.

In a statement on its official website, Charlton Athletic paid a heartfelt tribute to the young footballer, highlighting his infectious smile, boundless energy, and love for the game.

“Ethan’s smile, energy, and enthusiasm for football will always be remembered by his teammates and the staff within the academy,” the club wrote. “From the moment he stepped onto a football pitch at Sparrows Lane, his desire to succeed was evident, and his love for football will forever be remembered.”

Charlton Athletic chairman Gavin Carter expressed his deep sorrow over the loss, offering condolences and support to Ethan’s grieving family.

“On behalf of everyone at Charlton Athletic, we are devastated by the heartbreaking news of Ethan’s passing,” he said. “Our thoughts, heartfelt condolences, and full support are with Ethan’s parents and family. We kindly ask that their privacy – and that of Ethan’s friends, teammates, and the staff who worked with him – be respected during this incredibly difficult time.”

Academy Manager Tom Pell also shared an emotional message, promising that the club would honour Ethan’s memory in a special way.

“Everyone within Charlton Athletic’s academy is absolutely devastated by the news of Ethan’s tragic passing,” Pell said. “On behalf of the academy, we are sending our thoughts, prayers, and sincere condolences to Ethan’s parents, Adeola and Esther, and to the rest of his family and friends.

“In due course, we will share details of how we plan to pay tribute to Ethan across the academy to ensure he is always remembered. His beaming smile will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Ethan.”

Clubs from across England have also sent their condolences, standing in solidarity with Charlton Athletic and Ethan’s family during this time of immense grief.
