Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress will be the sole African representatives at the 2025 FIBA Under-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, which tips off on July 12 at the Sportovní Hala Vodova in Brno, Czech Republic.
Africa was initially set to have two teams at the tournament, but Mali, winners of the FIBA Africa U-18 Afrobasket, have withdrawn after failing to secure visas for their players in time.
In a statement confirming Mali’s withdrawal, FIBA announced, “FIBA has been informed that the delegation of Mali for the FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup 2025 was unable to travel to Brno, Czechia, due to visa issues.”

Mali, who were drawn in Group A, were scheduled to face Australia on July 12, France on July 13, and Brazil on July 15. All their games have now been removed from the tournament schedule.
Meanwhile, debutants Nigeria have been placed in Group B alongside China, Canada, and Portugal. The Junior D’Tigress will open their campaign against China on Saturday.
