Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress will chase their first-ever victory at the 2025 FIBA Under-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup when they debut against China at the Sportovní hala Vodova Hall in Brno, Czech Republic.

The game tips off at 1 pm Nigerian time on Saturday.

While this is the 16th edition of the tournament, it marks Nigeria’s first appearance, and the team will be eager to make a lasting impression on the global stage.

Drawn into Group B, the Junior D’Tigress will face China, Canada, and Portugal. Beyond their debut game, the team’s ultimate goal will be to advance from the group stage and continue to build on their growing reputation.

The squad departed Nigeria for Brno on Tuesday and have been working to acclimatize to the conditions in their host country.

China, a perennial participant in the competition, have featured in all but one edition and have secured a podium finish only once. Meanwhile, Portugal and Canada have also yet to lift the trophy, although Canada boasts two podium finishes to date.

Nigeria will look to rely on the leadership and experience of point guard Idubamo Beg, who was one of the standout performers at the U-18 Afrobasket earlier this year.
