A total of 16 players participated in the Super Eagles’ first training session in Warsaw as preparations intensified for this month’s international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Nigeria will face Poland on June 3 before taking on a star-studded World Cup-bound Portugal side on June 10 in what will be their final matches of the international window.

Fresh from their impressive Unity Cup triumph, where they defeated Jamaica 3-0 in the final, the Super Eagles are aiming to maintain their momentum against two strong European opponents. The first test comes against Poland, who, like Nigeria, failed to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe, the team’s camp officially opened in Warsaw, with all 18 invited players now present.

The players in camp include goalkeepers Maduka Okoye, Francis Uzoho, and Arthur Okonkwo. Captain Wilfred Ndidi is among the early arrivals, alongside his long-time teammate and roommate Moses Simon.

Other players in camp are Akor Adams, Terem Moffi, Tochukwu Nnadi, Emmanuel Fernandez, Semi Ajayi, Rafiu Durosinmi, Paul Onuachu, Zaidu Sanusi, Igho Ogbu, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Bruno Onyemaechi, and Abdullahi Ibrahim.

The friendlies present another opportunity for the coaching crew to assess the squad and continue building for future competitions despite the disappointment of missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria’s absence from the expanded 48-team tournament remains a major setback, particularly as Africa will have a record 10 representatives at the global showpiece. The Super Eagles failed to qualify through both the main qualifying campaign and the playoff route, extending their World Cup frustration after also missing the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

With World Cup hopes now on hold, the focus shifts to rebuilding confidence and cohesion within the squad as they prepare to face Poland and Portugal in Warsaw.
